This past year has been another very successful and busy one for The Dog Company & Island Dog Sports.
We have had several additions to our immediate families/membership: furry newcomers Swift, Reba & Hana, and our human additions, Landon & Jillian & Briella. We also had one wedding this year, with the June nuptials of Carina & Jared. We also lost one of our oldest dogs: Slick passed over this year …he is still missed every day!
The New Year is starting with some terrific changes…and challenges. We’ll be adding canine freestyle dance to our entertainment roster, and George & Pia Horel (& family) will be taking over the Island Dog Sports side of things. That means that our mom Peni will be able to take some time now just to have fun, playing as a member and occasional assistant to Pia and George.
Taking a cue from our mom, this new year will also be the start of retirement for Poutine & me. We will still write for the Woof but Swift, Reba & Hana will follow in our pawprints in the sports and entertainment fields. Girls—we are a hard act to follow but we’ll teach you all you need to know…so listen up and mind your manners!
Peni and some of the other humans also took on an additional sport this year. They became the “Dogpaddlers”, our very own canine-inspired dragon boat team. They sure were impressive in their very first year of competition. Under the coaching of Josh and Anthony, they too learned how to respond to commands—without treats but with lots of praise!
It’s been a great year, and I would like to thank all the members of Island Dog Sports’ canine entertainers (the Strait Chuters Demo Team), the ever-wandering Trail Blazers, and our brand new “Beggin’ for Applause” freestyle dance chorus line. It is truly hard to tell who has more fun—the handlers or us dogs!
Happy Holidays everyone and all the best health and happiness in the New Year 2005 !

Dog tags ring, are you listenin'?
In the lane, snow is glistenin'
It's yellow, NOT white, I've been there tonight
Markin' up my winter wonderland.
Smell that tree? that's my fragrance
It's a sign for wandering vagrants -
"Avoid where I pee, it's MY pro-per-ty!
Marked up as my winter wonderland"
In the meadow Dad will build a snowman,
Following the classical design.
Then I'll lift my leg and let it go, Man!
So all the world will know that it's
Mine - mine - mine!
Straight from me to the fence post,
Flows my natural incense boast -
"Stay off my TURF, this small piece of earth,
I marked it as my winter wonderland."

Many of you know that over the last two years our mom Peni has been talking about making some changes for herself which of course includes us. It is a huge responsibility running the club and looking after everything. Peni really wanted to have a change of pace and play a lot more with us dogs.
Pia, George and Peni have talked about this for over a year, as it is a big decision, a huge undertaking and lots of responsibility. Peni knows George & Pia are the perfect people to continue Island Dog Sports Club.
After many discussions & decisions for over a year, Peni & us dogs “Sweep” “Pouie” Swift “Reba” & “Hana” are happy to say that George & Pia Horel “Chinook” & “Monty” have decided to take over Island Dog Sports Club! This is a big change for them and us. We will of course be club members and still do training with our club members, under George & Pia’s directions, along with our young dogs and Pia who is running the wild thing “Swift.” Peni will run “Reba” & “Hana”. “Pouie” & I will keep an eye on the young rebels, and come out to show them how its done from time to time so they don’t get full of themselves.
Happy New Year everyone!
Yippee! Let the games begin!

Holiday Etiquette For Dogs
- Be especially patient with your humans during this time. They may appear to be more stressed-out than usual and they will appreciate long comforting dog leans.
- They may come home with large bags of things they call gifts. Do not assume that all the gifts are yours.
- Be tolerant if your humans put decorations on you. They seem to get some special kind of pleasure out of seeing how you look with fake antlers.
- They may bring a large tree into the house and set it up in a prominent place and cover it with lights and decorations. Bizarre as this may seem to you it is an important ritual for your humans so there are some things you need to know:
- don't pee on the tree
- don't drink water in the container that holds the tree
- mind your tail when you are near the tree
- if there are packages under the tree, even ones that smell interesting or that have your name on them, don't rip them open.
- don't chew on the cord that runs from the funny-looking hole in the wall to the tree.
- Your humans may occasionally invite lots of strangers to come visit during this season. These parties can be lots of fun but they also call for some discretion on your part:
- not all strangers appreciate kisses and leans
- don't eat off the buffet table
- beg for goodies subtly
- be pleasant even if unknowing strangers sit on your sofa
- don't drink out of glasses that are left within your reach.
- Likewise, your humans may take you visiting. Here your manners will also be important:
- observe all the rules in #4 for trees that may be in other people's houses. (4a is particularly important)
- respect the territory of other animals that may live in the house
- tolerate children
- turn on your charm big time.
- A big man with a white beard and a very loud laugh may emerge from your fireplace in the middle of the night. DON'T BITE HIM!

Irving Berlin’s WHITE CHRISTMAS (1954)
Starring: Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, and Vera-Ellen
Rated: not rated
Approx. Time: 120 min
SUMMARY
It’s time to get out those Christmas classics for the Holiday Season. One of the best Christmas movies is Irving Berlin’s White Christmas. This movie is a treasury of Berlin classics, like "Count your Blessings Instead of Sheep", "Sisters", and the beloved holiday song, "White Christmas."
The story is of "two talented song-and-dance men (Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye) who team up after the war to become one of the hottest acts in show business. One winter, they join forces with a sister act (Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen) and trek to Vermont for a white Christmas. Of course, there’s the requisite fun with the ladies, but the real adventure starts when Crosby and Kaye discover that the inn is run by their old army general who’s now in financial trouble. And the result is the stuff dreams are made of." – Paramount Pictures Corp.
